The vocals were recorded in a proper studio and all other tracks were redone with fresh mix and mastering. This recording is a bit more “produced” than his solo acoustic live version. Without access to a horn section, Ed chose to present “Stuck in the Clouds” in the form of a guitar quartet with lead, rhythm, bass and drums.

What would happen if everything we’ve ever know fell into a black hole? Everything, cars, politicians, stores, even time itself. My love for you would still persist. I would still long for your company. This is the Podunk Virtual Band version of a song from a previous acoustic album. Plenty of twelve string chime and jangle here.

The Podunk Virtual Band takes on an electric version of “Life is Good” which first appeared on the “Lazy Day” acoustic solo album. The song is a “finger pointer” calling out the sad double standard economy we are living with. The rich have always gotten richer and the poor, poorer but the current state of affairs has accelerated the divide. Lots of electric snarl on this to match the anger of the lyric. Ultimately the hope is that the right nerves are touched and a call goes up to build a fair economy. Either way it’s a rockin’ good listen.

Western Sky by Ed Amann

Maybe a song doesn’t have to have a perfectly clear story. “Western Sky” leaves much of the plot up to the listener’s imagination and just tries to paint some images on the mind. Perhaps it’s just about the music. In years past, many composers wrote music without lyric and left the whole thing up the listener’s imagination.

The Podunk Virtual Band adds an organ to increase the chill factor in the Halloween themed piece. Lots of funk and twang in this tale of terror.

“Just Dance, Again” is a reimagining of Ed’s ode to the beauty and passion of dance. Ed brought back his his virtual band Podunk to make this track more like what he was hearing in his head when he wrote it quite a while ago. This version has a tighter mix and more intense lead guitar while retaining the original vocals.

Sometimes you just feel like telling a sad story. Life contains a lot of things and sadness is just one of them. To recognize it is to allow some room for happiness to enter. Take a look at these lyrics and you’ll see that the star of the story found some measure of happiness in her life. I like to think she fully enjoyed the good parts.

It was in the dead of winter in North America and Ed was dreaming of flying away to a tropical paradise. Out of that dream came “Fly Away Some Time”. First released as a nearly live acoustic single on the out print “The Real Deal”, it has become a staple on Ed’s live shows. Ed brought back his his virtual band Podunk to make this track more like what he was hearing in his head when he wrote it quite a while ago. This electrified version has lots of electric twelve string jangle and a much stronger rhythm section. This remixed version has a much better feel.
