From the recording The Prayer
Very few people can honestly say that they never pray. “The Prayer” is about returning our focus the fact that all life is connected. It seems that we sometimes forget this fact as we strive to accumulate things that perhaps we do not even really want. Spending time in the natural world is a vital form of worship.
The Podunk Virtual Band channels the “jangle pop” sound to make the vital message more user friendly..
Lyrics
The Prayer
1.
The hucksters and the grifters always tell us what we need,
But it always seems the bottom line is there to feed their greed,
The takers cheat the makers from the bottom and the top,
But none can hear the prayer unless their screaming stops,
This prayer has been here all along waiting to be known,
It’s how much we love each other and not how much we own,
2.
In the canyons of the city, where taking rules the day,
The roar of greed says everything a person does must pay,
In alleys off the boulevards where the sun is seldom seen,
The prayer is sometimes softly heard but life is mostly mean,
Bridge
Take a step back from the edge, open up your heart,
See the beauty of the world and let the loving start,
3.
In the high cathedral forest where the Nature’s voices ring,
When you take a moment’s silence you can hear the planet sing,
If you really listen deeply, you can hear the finest prayer,
A calling for compassion and a longing for what’s fair,
This prayer has been here all along waiting to be known,
It’s how much we love each other and not how much we own,
